Cat and Turtle.

Not sure if this counts as a lunchdoodle or a lunchimation? Sometimes I make little gifs in Photoshop. Someday I'll buckle down and learn After Effects.

Life is moving pretty fast right now. And that's awesome. And I love it and am in it. But occasionally, in the middle of the excitement, I'm finding my psyche just trudging along. Not really trying to keep up. Some moments I feel like the turtle, other moments I feel like the cat.

Guac A Mole

Because my co-worker and fellow Pennsylvanian friend had been nagging, er, asking for this request for some time. Avocados have the funniest faces.

Meat vs. Booze

Meat vs. Booze is an idea I've had for some time now. I posed an informal survey a couple years ago and lately have been thinking it could be fun to have an actual survey and then use the data to improve my infographic design skills. Maybe make some fun charts and graphs and illustrations. Because the only thing more fun than eating and drinking meat and alcohol is drawing the two. Well, I'm sure there are other fun things, but for the sake of this project we'll pretend.

If you would be so kind as to fill out this fun little anonymous survey, I'd be SUPER appreciative!

National Read-a-Thon Day

And the best thing, the very best thing of all, is there's time now... there's all the time I need and all the time I want. Time, time, time. There's time enough at last.

Getting ready for National Readathon Day!

Old Man Pacman

oldmanpacman.jpg

Tomorrow is October!! Holy shit. Part of me is beyond excited and part of me is freaking out because wasn't it just the beginning of August? Wasn't I fresh off my sabbatical and full of ideas and projects and fun things? I was. And then came planning an AIGA conference, and busy stuff at work, and more AIGA stuff, and freelance projects, and social things, and now. Now it's almost October.

But October is MY MONTH. It's the best month. My birthday month. And while the ideas and plans I had lay dormant, they're not dead. There's some shuffle and life left in them yet. It's time to open the windows, let in the fall air, and spend some me-time on me-projects in my month. This means more lunchdoodles (maybe not daily just yet), and some animations, and some lil' comics, and doodles, and holiday cards. More of all the best things, the Halloween themed things, the creepy things, the cute things.

I ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Totally Awesome Tuesday

happyheart.jpg

Today. Is awesome.

• I am officially down 20lb. since December! Down 7 this month as I had put on a couple extra on my sabbatical. And while that's not a whole lot considering it's been, what, 9 months? Those months have included a trip to San Francisco, Philadelphia, a 5 week sabbatical, a month (or so) of emotional eating, and limited mobility due to a broken foot. There has been no shortage of pizza, poutine, delicious beverages, baked goods, Dunkin Donuts, and fried deliciousness in my life this summer.  So I'd say all in all, this is an achievement, a momentum I hope to carry out the rest of the year. Aaaaand I maybe did a happy dance this morning.

• I went solo to a standup comedy show last night (free!) and hope to go to another one tonight. I even met some people and learned names and had conversations. It seems like a good group of people. Oh and I laughed A BUNCH.

• Franz Ferdinand's new album is out. FF reminds me of everything great about college. Summer of 2004, before my senior year, was a summer of amazing memories and amazing music. Franz Ferdinand was (and still is) one of my favorites in the mix. If that doesn't make for a good Tuesday, well then we just have to agree to disagree.

 • I have a(n almost) daily comic called Pretty Little Heart. It's getting some great feedback for only being a week or so old. I have to get better at time management though. Getting a drawn/inked/scanned/colored comic up everyday is nothing short of difficult, but I'll get the hang of it. I've certainly got enough ideas worked up!

 • I'm giving blood tonight! Just savin' some live on a Tuesday. NBD.

Summer Peaches

photo.JPG

My CSA peaches this year have been some of the sweetest, juiciest, most delicious I've ever had. Every week I'm so delighted to see them in my box, but every one I eat makes me a little bit sad knowing that this joy won't last much longer. And don't even get me started on the tomatoes. For once, I'll be sad to see summer go.

Can't Say Something Nice

photo.JPG

I'm ok with the saying that you can't choose your family. I get my family. I don't always get along with them, but I know them and know how to maneuver the rocky parts and hold on the the best parts. But relatives, aunts and uncles... sigh. Really wish I could trade in one or two of 'em.

Also, I have two cavities.

Don't Eat the Eyes!

eyes.jpg

Lately most of my lunchdoodles have been little comic thumbnails. I haven't posted them because I feel like my lunchdoodles should be more finished, or at least involve ink. Which is silly. Somehow along the way I raised my lunchdoodle standards. So I tuck my thumbnails away figuring I'll ink or flesh them out later, and THEN post them. Instead these thumbnail friends stay deep in the confines of my Moleskine. Much like an antisocial youth living out their life in their parents' basement, the light of day may be seen eventually, but it's a slim chance.

SO I'm going to start posting thumbnails too. Which might actually act as a catalyst to ink some of them up.

Anyway. Got me a watermelon in my CSA box this week! I opened it up AND IT'S YELLOW ON THE INSIDE. My mind and tastebuds have been blown.

Poods was a Dog of Dogs

bruce.jpg

Today's lunchdoodle is a bit of a sad one. My family dog, Bruce, AKA Poods, had to be put down today. He lived 15 years, double the average age for a dog his size. And his life was quite a great one as far as dog lives go. He had many years free to roam around woods and fields, special spaghetti and hamburger dinners, his own entourage of cats that doted upon and cuddled him regularly, and plenty of love and hugs from my teenage friends, then my little sisters' teenage friends, college friends, and from everyone in our family. Which is probably why he made it so long.

But losing a pet, even an old one, is never easy. I'm happy that Poods will be up in whatever heaven pets go to (which is probably way more awesome than the people version) with his buddy, the late Gomez the Cat. He's in a better place for sure, but if you could send happy thoughts to my mom, they'd be much appreciated.

Shark Week: Wallpaper and an Ode

sharkweek.jpg

I'll be posting a lunchdoodle later, but wanted to post a few of these now. This is a wallpaper illustration I started last year which I finally got around to finishing. And before Shark Week ends too!

I've seen a handful of Shark Week haters on the internet, and that makes me sad. Sharks were around even before T-Rex! And they're still here! And very real! And if given the chance they'll rip your face off!

I dunno, maybe it's nostalgia for the days when my sister and I would scare ourselves silly at the beach, or the memory of our first visit to the Boston Aquarium, making a beeline for the shark tank only to stare at the giant creatures in awe and amazement. Maybe it's the fact that I still love dinosaurs. Or maybe it's my undying love and excitement for the movie JAWS. Maybe it's the fact that I don't like to hold back my inner 5 year old or that I like what I like even if it's not what the hip kids are into nowadays. Regardless. With cable or without, I'll always be a fan of Shark Week. An entire week devoted to sharks just can't be a bad thing in my book.

I only posted two sizes (the sizes I created for both of my monitors) as well as two iPhone sizes. Comment below if you want a size not offered and I'll work it up and post!
