Illustration Friday :: Whiskers

8231723367_1cee97dca9_b.jpg

The Internet Gods were not in my favor last night and wouldn't cooperate long enough to let me upload this illustration in time for this past week's Illustration Friday post. Sad. I really like this one too. Rex has a pet kitty! His name is Whiskers. I'm thinking I might make Rex the subject of upcoming Illustration Friday posts. Could be fun. This next theme is "Stretch." Downward-facing dinosaur anyone?

Zombie Corn

8128245040_a32d828b30_b.jpg

It's been a bit of a while since I started this one, but finally got around to finishing it. They say all candy corn comes from the same batch from the 1950s. It just keeps getting recycled year to year. Makes sense to me...

It's That Old New

[three_fourth]As mentioned in an earlier post, my old Intuos3 finally bit the dust. It had been on its way out for awhile, but I finally had to bid it farewell last week. This has made working on a current illustration project phenomenally difficult. Coloring with a mouse no longer cuts it. THANKFULLY, I have great friends, who also have great friends. And an awesome friend of an awesome friend gave me his old Graphire tablet. It's a little bit older than my old Intuos3, so I was a bit nervous that I wouldn't like it or that it wouldn't be as sensitive as my last one, but even if that had been the case, at least I'd have a working tablet. It just came in the mail today and I am ecstatic to report that it works great! I don't notice any sensitivity difference all (although I'm sure there is, I just can't tell). I've been doodling around to test it out and my Photoshop brushes still respond to pressure. I can set the clicks on the side-button and it still has the "eraser" function like an actual pencil. As an added bonus, it's also a lot tinier than my last one, about half the size at least. I'm sure I'll still be getting a new one much sooner than later, BUT I plan to continue using this one. Even if (when) I get a new tablet, this one will be perfect for taking with me to coffeeshops and to and from work. And best best best of all, this means I can wrap up this tree illustration project this weekend without having to resort to using a mouse! Goodness all around!![/three_fourth]

Rex is My Friend

[three_fourth]I love dinosaurs. My sister and I may have watched Jurassic Park on repeat more times than I'm willing to admit when we were young. Every line and scene, memorized. I especially love ol' T-Rex though. He's always a little bumbling and awkward. I also find I tend to doodle him/her/it? on the regular, so I started a little Tumblog a bit ago titled Rex is My Friend. Some of the stuff on there will overlap here and vice versa.[/three_fourth]

Peaches

[three_fourth]I grew up with dogs. Big dogs. But the one year, my sister had the chance to pick out the next family dog and she chose Peaches. A runty, stubborn, turd of a beagle mix. That ol' dog lived about 14 years. Despite being hit by a car. Twice. Attacked by a bear. Twice. Consuming an entire chicken carcass, stuck in illegal hunting traps, sprayed by every skunk in the area, stuck under the porch, and knocked up by a very large collie (let's just say it didn't work out. Little beagles aren't meant to carry collie pups). Yet that dog lived for FOURTEEN YEARS. And lived every day to eat. And was thusly the fattest little beagle dog ever. My grandfather nicknamed her "The Square Dog." While she passed away ages ago, thoughts of her randomly haunted my mind today. Peaches, oh Peaches. You were a good dog, my dear.[/three_fourth].

With spring here and summer around the corner I thought it was a good time to finally illustrate a sketch I made last year. I've been meaning to make it into a desktop background for awhile now so here it is. If you find you need an additional size, shoot me an email at taylor.schena@gmail.com and I'll hook you up. Enjoy this ice cream treat and hopefully I'll have more in the future! Click to view full size right-click to download:

Princess Woes

A cartoon based on my parents' cat dramas. Essentially, a new kitten was introduced into the already large group of 6. The previous new cat, Princess (aptly named), has been "depressed" over the situation. It's probably funnier if you know all the cats personally. Or if you actually have cats.
